Re: All about Touch of Nature

AZNT claims that Touch of Nature (ToN) comes from a tree that was genetically engineered over 30 years by Dr. Loricchio, and dubbed "Nature's Taste". Supposedly this tree only grows on land owned by AZNT and, regardless, AZNT has an exclusive license to export things from the Brazilian Rain Forest to America. According to AZNT "spokesman" and friend of the "webkmaster", Icabod, ToN is the "furthest thing from Stevia there could be". AZNT at one point even put the chemical formula for it on their website.

Now, here are the "facts" as we know them. Please feel free to verify or dispute any one of them:

1. There is no record in the literature for a tree called "Nature's Taste", nor the Latin equivalent

2. There is no record in the SEC filings for any land owned by AZNT in Brazil

3. The export agreement AZNT has is not exclusive for anything

4. The chemical information AZNT posted (and removed) from their website for ToN appears to be nonsense: the molecular weights do not add up and a chemist described the formula as "rocket fuel".

5. At one point AZNT was rumored to be talking to Nutrasweet about ToN. We posted a page from the contract (can't find URL) that showed it was in reality a "stevia product".

6. It was later rumored that AZNT was talking to Monsanto about ToN. We proved that totally false. magneticdiary.com

7. Meanwhile, AZNT continues to predict that AZNT will be marketed in every mall in America and distributed through places like Sweet Factory. For example:

Amazon also wishes to announce that they have developed a natural sweetener to compete against Equal, and Sweet and Low. AZNT's natural sweetener is non-chemical and has no side effects, with a taste similar to that of cane sugar. AZNT's sweetener division will be fully operational in the first quarter 1998. Estimated sales for the first year alone will be over $50 million.

a. ToN is, legally, not a sweetener
b. No medical tests have ever been presented to show it has "no side effects"
c. AZNT has no "sweetener division"
d. 1998 sales didn't even come close to $50M
e. Sweet Factory has no interest: #reply-6944938
f. AZNT has not applied for FDA approval for ToN

According to the above, it appears that anyone who ingests ToN can't possibly have any idea exactly what they are really putting in their body. This is dangerous. Anyone selling ToN should talk to their lawyer about the legal consequences of selling such a product should there be adverse side effects. ToN distributors should also be mindful of how they market it; i.e. the claims they make about its use as a sweetener.
