Chuck,

I find the article interesting because:

1) is the timing a coincidence to dampen QCOM's shareholders and analysts meeting?

2) is the timing a coincidence as prelude to upcoming China and US trade talks?

3) CDMA in China is not in commercial use, but is not far. Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and "forgot the 4th city - Ghangzhou?", has the combined population larger than most European countries. They have already spent millions on infrastruture. It makes no sense not to use what is already there and spend new money to add capacity to GSM, which, contrary to what the WSJ articles says, is indeed the obsolete technology.

4) If Irwin was aware of the forthcoming decision from an official source in China, he sure played it cool yesterday. I read SCMP, Inside China, Nikkei Times and found no such announcement in Asia. So where did WJS picked up the story? Do you think that some official in China picked up the phone and called the WSJ first and gave whatshisname a global exclusive story ahead of everyone back home?

5) Assuming there are some heavy negotiations going on with ERICY right now, I wonder some finger pointing is justified?

6) As for the type juvenile posts that someone linked from the yahoo message board, I think most of us hear the one sided stories about how the world screw us in fair trade. No one pays attention to strings attached in trading with the US. Do you think Sweden or Finland dictate what China must do in terms of Tibet, human rights etc before they will trade with China? Furthermore, I wonder if Sweden has the same anti palm greasing laws as we do. Though improving, corruption is still a way of life in China and other developing countries. I seriously doubted if QCOM can consider that an alternative.

Well, market is about to open. I better stop here or else I may be confused with Maurice.
