TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1999 Televizer Takes You to the Movies Anytime, Anywhere
Nicci Noteboom, Associate Editor ZDNet AnchorDesk
Part of last week I was on vacation in Hawaii. It was great. But the flight home was a bit too bumpy for this white-knuckle flyer. I was hoping for an in-flight flick starring a hunk like Brad Pitt to ease my nerves. Instead it was a three-hanky number with Meryl Streep.
Boy, could I have used a hot new gadget called Televizer. This portable DVD theater rocks.
Perfect for the road warrior (or the home body) the Televizer pairs up two cool technologies -- DVD and i-O Display System's i-glasses -- to create a portable home theater. The glasses weigh a mere 8 ounces and use embedded LCD and advanced optical design to create the illusion of an 80-inch screen spaced about 11 feet from the viewer. The glasses include headphones and plug into a Panasonic portable DVD player for a completely private viewing. Other Televizer features include:
Rechargeable battery (about 3.5 hours) Stereo sound Compatibility with all other video sources, such as VCRs, videogame units, other DVD players
Here's the bad news: Televizer retails for around $1,500. If you simply want the glasses, it's $500. For purchase information, go to the i-O Display Systems site. Click for more.
Oh, and the glasses are a little funky looking, so don't be surprised if people give you second looks. As if I'd notice (or care) when I'm getting a Brad Pitt fix at 30,000 feet.
I'd pick up a Televizer today if it wasn't so spendy. How about you? Is a gadget this versatile worth the price? Use the TalkBack Button below and tell me. I'll post responses beneath this article. |
