WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1999--
Interleaf Leverages the Power of Object-Oriented Technology and XML to Revolutionize Management of e-Content(TM)
Interleaf, Inc. (Nasdaq:LEAF) and Object Design, Inc. (Nasdaq:ODIS) today announced a strategic partnership that will leverage both Companies' core competencies in XML-based solutions and improve their ability to deliver solutions specifically tailored for their customers' evolving business needs. Interleaf and Object Design will cross license their technologies for use in Interleaf's BladeRunner(TM) and in Object Design's eXcelon(TM). Interleaf's XML-based e-content solution, BladeRunner, will employ Object Design's object-oriented database, ObjectStore(R), and Interleaf's Styler&Composer(TM) will be integrated into Object Design's eXcelon(TM), a highly scalable XML data server.
For BladeRunner customers, ObjectStore's unique Cache-Forward(TM) architecture will provide a high-speed, object-oriented repository with superior scalability. ObjectStore's transparent integration with relational database management systems will further enable BladeRunner customers to leverage their current investments in legacy relational databases. BladeRunner is the first complete enterprise content management solution that harnesses the power of industry standards such as eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and Microsoft(R) Word to deliver the reusability and personalization benefits of structured information in content-critical business solutions over the Web.
"Our partnership with Object Design represents an integral component in our overall strategy of providing world class XML-based e-content solutions," stated Jaime Ellertson, Interleaf's President and CEO. "Object Design's ObjectStore will provide our customers with the performance and scalability they require in their initiatives to leverage critical content over the Web. And Object Design will be leveraging the power of our publishing engine with its licensing of our XML-based Styler&Composer technology."
Integrating Interleaf's W3C-compliant Styler&Composer into Object Design's eXcelon will provide the ability to create dynamic, personalized documents with multi-channel publishing capabilities including Web, CD-ROM and print.
"By providing our customers with a proven XML publishing engine, Interleaf's Styler&Composer will help to establish eXcelon as the best solution for building high-performance XML Web applications," said Object Design President and CEO Justin Perreault. "And by selecting ObjectStore as the embedded database in BladeRunner, Interleaf has assured its customers that they will have the industry's best XML data-management technology at the heart of their XML content-management system."
Interleaf's BladeRunner will be generally available during the second quarter of 1999. The product is currently being implemented in an early adopter phase at Motorola's Semiconductor Components Group, Shared Medical Systems (SMS), North Carolina's Department of Commerce and Practitioners Publishing Company, among others. Object Design's eXcelon will be generally available during the first quarter of 1999. A free, downloadable beta version of eXcelon is currently available on Object Design's Web page at objectdesign.com. About Object Design
