Figured out what WK's strategy and their implementation is:

1) Identify the mobile segment most in need of continual contact back to the corporate home - salesmen.

2) Identify the number one requirement of this population - scheduling and messaging. (Thus are excluded database app's)

3) Identify the leading product set that performs these functions - Microsoft Exchange (maybe Lotus Notes at some later date).

4) Put all resources on maximizing usability of the product(s) identified in 3 - thin down the amount of data that needs to be transmitted between Exchange client and server.

Essentially they are doing with mobile phones for salesmen what was done for truckers with Omnitracks.
