[Gene therapy subthread] There is an extensive article on gene therapy on page 1 of the Science Times section in yesterday's (2/23/99) New York Times, mentioning ARIA and highlighting James Wilson and his work at U.Penn. The article is at
nytimes.com

The article also mentions Dr. William N. Kelley, now dean of the U.Penn medical school, who with two others (one a friend and client of mine) at the University of Michigan developed what I understand is the most important of the method of delivering gene therapy into cells. FYI, that patent (for a "viral-mediated gene transfer system"), which is assigned to the University of Michigan, is at: patents.ibm.com

You will have to at least register (free) to access the Times article, or it may be more difficult than that, and the Times may ask you to pay for it (I know this is true if you get to it via the NYT site's archives search function, but it may be free if you have this link). Sorry, I had tried to post this last night after seeing the article in hard copy, but couldn't get into the Times website.
