Anthony,

This form that is filled out is used to stop money laundering from drug trafficers. I worked at a bank for approx. 4 years and had to fill this form out on a couple of people. Whenever someone places a cash transaction over $10,000.00 this form has to be filled out. We were told that the authorities we report to are close to a year behind in reviewing these forms though. We had two forms we could fill out, one for all over $10,000.00 transactions, and one for suspected criminal activity.

As a bank employee, if one of these forms were not filled out, personally we could be arrested for abedding criminal activity. This has occurred in the past to others. Also, structuring transactions, like making 2 $5,000.00 cash transactions, is also illegal, for both the employee and customer.

For the people who I had to fill the form out on, they knew what it was for and didn't really mind. I believe that for its intended purpose, it has its share of loopholes, and drug trafficers can get around it.

Scott
