Scott, maybe I over-flamed the TNT sli bit...
And I am not disagreeing with anyone on this board.. that so far this *is* hype. And am taking it as hype, be blind not to recognize the timing on this. And, my position is skewed by the fact that I now only own 200 shares, not my 'large' holding of before. So take the following comments in that context.
Metabyte: whether or not they actually deliver on time is mostly immaterial: Metabyte has basically 'leaked' that SLI of what was once argued on this board where no-SLI 'able chip-sets is indeed possible. The ability to SLI Banshee was a big issue discussed on this board, the ability to SLI Voodoo3 similarly. Over-Generalizing: likes of Sun argued it from the ability to sell more boards, likes of me argued it from maintaining the top retail slot.
Personally, I believe the information on the technical possibility of doing the SLI, that's my decision as an investor, logically this then raises the bar for Rampage IMO. How can Rampage not do some form of SLI? The simple fact is that it is a business strategy for extending old chipsets: release the best chip out there Voodoo3. When TNT2 gets out, if ever, release SLI Voodoo3, when TNT2 SLI gets out, release Rampage, and on, and on.... 3Dfx came up with it, but for some reason didn't keep following it. I'm sure they now a lot more about their business than me.
So still, I like 3Dfx's chances, but their market is competitive.
