I don't know your answer, but I'll take a guess.
I'm not great with lineages, and I really never studied them much. But theoretically, I thought they were always important to prove out God's plan, and most importantly the lineage of Messiah, to show who he is.
With that said, would have Cain's lineage got you to David, which in turn get's you to Messiah? If it does not get you to David, then it was probably just not important, as the information does not go to proving or showing anything in God's plan.
Just a thought.....
