I will do my best to answer your questions.

1-- I can only attempt to classify the economic status of investors by saying that their portfolio values average about $200k.

2-- Both.

3-- Gold is by far the metal of choice. (Reflecting anxiety about the Mellennium????)

4-- The investment is rarely more than 10% of the total portfolio. Often a hedge strategy.
