Glass, you're in a good spot if you're just starting out. When I decided to try the dark side I went after names like CIEN and YHOO, and this was when CIEN was a darling. The difference between shorting good companies that are overvalued is that the price doesn't have to come down to good value. The company can grow into the valuation. My advice is to stick with the CYOE's and CFON's of the market for shorting purposes. Company's like the ones that are targeted on this thread have little if no substance. Primarily, they are stock distribution schemes seeking to sell inflated shares to gullible victims. This makes it an excellent bet that there will be no takeovers, and nearly certain that the company's will grow into their inflated valuations. This doesn't mean that a manufactured short squeeze isn't possible. I'm actually a little worried in the back of my mind that CYOE has one coming soon. Despite criticism that I have received, I will not buy back those shares at inflated prices, since my crystal ball is broken. If CYOE were to run to 15, I would be selling more all the way up.

Oh, and about that warning that shorting has infinite risk, I always say, show me a stock that has gapped up to infinity. I can name a few dozen that have suddenly gone to near zero. OK, enough lecturing. I hope it helps a little.
