Posted at 4:09 PM PT, Feb 10, 1997 Verity will showcase at the Demo 97 conference on Wednesday technology that puts a new search and navigation interface on top of Search '97, according to Philippe Courtot, the company's CEO.
The patented technology automatically organizes documents into categories that are either created by the system or predefined in the database architecture, as opposed to current search interfaces that present users with document or so-called results lists based on their searches, Courtot said.
"It is a natural way of navigating through the information," Courtot said in describing the as-yet-unnamed product which is expected to ship before August. The product will employ the features of Search '97 -- which searches and indexes documents from multiple sources -- but will look like an application when it comes to presenting information to the user.
Verity recently bulked up its technology by snapping up Cognisoft, and this purchase will not be its last, according to Courtot, who said Verity plans further acquisitions.
Verity will ship IntelliServe "push" intranet software, developed by Cognisoft, on its search and index platform by the end of May.
The company also heralded 1997 as the year that Verity will make an impact on the European market. Verity also has its sights set on Asia, where the company will announce in the next several weeks versions of its products in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
The new interface product will be localized in major languages, as well, according to Courtot. |
