Freeus, if you don't understand volatility I think you should hold off on trading options until you do.

Put very simply, volatility is the propensity for a stock price to change. Since I know some of the stocks you follow I will put volatility in terms of those stocks. Dell is a volatile stock. AOL is a very volatile stock. T is not a volatile stock.

All other things being equal, the more volatile the stock, the more the option is worth. You can calculate the implied volatility using the options calculator at cboe.com
