Bimbo sighting (another breathless dispatch from Marcy):

Intel on Rambus Delay
Intel (INTC:Nasdaq) told a group of financial analysts and reporters that its final rollout of chips based on revolutionary Rambus (RMBS:Nasdaq) memory-enhancing technology will happen in September.
Rambus stock plunged last week on the rumors of delays from Intel. While Intel itself is facing no delays incorporating Rambus technology, Rambus requires a complex choreography of players -- brand-new equipment testers, packaging, motherboards and clocks. Intel just lately realized those products won't be ready by its original midyear time frame.

"The way the schedule is laid out now, we hope to have all the technology in place ... for a late Q3 launch," Intel fellow Pete MacWilliams said. "We think we have lots of time to do the various steps right."

MacWilliams said low yields are to be expected this early in the game for a new technology. "This is a very different testing environment that they are used to in the past," MacWilliams said. "Vendors are just going through that first round of tuning. It is normal at this point."

NationsBanc Montgomery Securities analyst Jon Joseph said he wasn't so sure. "Rambus looks good on paper, but implementation is another story." As for the stock? Who knows? he said. "Rambus is a cult company."
