This may sound crazy but I recommend you offer many of your songs on your web site for free. The catch would be offering them at 24kps - shoutcast.com 's most popular quality. OK, but not sufficient for a serious fan - those are the only ones who would pay for your music anyway (others would just borrow a friend's cd, make a tape, or download an illicit mp3). Real fans will probably order your cds and merchandise and pay to see you live if your tour frequently. Anyway, just some thoughts - maybe they've been proven wrong already.
