"We're not dabbling, we're not testing the waters, we're moving ahead on all fronts," ..
HP To Expand Linux Involvement newsbytes.com ... there is a project already under way in HP Labs to port Linux to Intel's 64-bit IA-64 platform, code-named Merced,... HP will contribute the IA-64 port "back to the open-source community."
Caccamo continued, "Contributing the IA-64 port will give HP the advantage of having best performing Linux, running on HP systems. But we have no intention to create a separate version of Linux. It will all stay in the OSS community."
To the best of my knowledge HP is the first big corporation that volunteered to contribute to open-source community. Whether they want to comply with GPL or have to, they get my ovation for that move.(g_m)
