HP will accelerate its open source efforts next week at LinuxWorld Expo, where HP will announce it has formed an internal organization called Open Source Software Operation, which will lead Linux work across several parts of the company....

platform, code-named Merced,... HP will contribute the IA-64
port "back to the open-source community."
Caccamo continued, "Contributing the IA-64 port will
give HP the advantage of having best performing
Linux, running on HP systems. But we have no
intention to create a separate version of Linux.
It will all stay in the OSS community."
To the best of my knowledge HP is the first big corporation that volunteered to contribute to open-source community. Whether they want to comply with GPL or have to, they get my ovation for that move.(g_m)
