.org is for 'Non-Profit' Organizations as far as I know. From working
at a non-profit some 10 years ago I gather it is not too difficult or
costly to set one up. You won't be able to make a lot of money on it
though.

Specific regulations vary from state to state. You may want to start
by calling up your local chamber of commerce to get pointed in the
right direction.
