I don't have any specific knowledge about UBeam's acceptance at PLAB. I wouldn't expect the poor business conditions to be helping matters, though. In addition to the simple lack of business/money, the poor business conditions would discourage risk-taking behavior like switching mask writers. Against this backdrop, I'd also expect the Etec supporters/salespeople to be sowing lots of FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about this "untried technology", regardless of its actual merits. As a result, the UBeam supporters would want to be very very sure of themselves. It's definitely not a case of "plug it in and turn it on."

The good news is that all this caution may mean that when/if the first one is accepted, UTEK can probably expect a significant followup order. I.E. PLAB may be considering a wholesale switch.
