Thanks D!! :)) Tom, thank you for posting that email from Dan Lunt!! And
Greg, thank you for your words of support. I didn't mean to offend anyone
and my remarks were not directed at the majority of posters on the
board. In regard to macintosh, let me say it probably kills Steve Jobs that
I, a true mac addict, am also a member of the Republican party! That being
said let me move on to WCTI.;>

I find this search engine software by Autonomy very interesting. The
following info is from autonomy.com

<<
Autonomy has the only technology capable of providing you with a
complete infrastructure for the automated handling of large volumes of
information for Knowledge Management or New Media markets.
Autonomy provides:

* Categorization
* Hyperlinking
* Search
* Delivery
* Alerting
* Fusion
* Personalization
* Profiling
* Visualization>>>>>

<<<
Autonomy provides ***search**** that allows you to describe in natural
language exactly what you want delivered to you. Our technology enables
the delivery of the right information to the right person at the right time -
automatically. >>>

and from their knowledge management area:

<<<
In addition to the automatic sorting and tagging of information, Agentware
enables the dynamic personalization of digital information by monitoring
and identifying each employee's area of expertise. This is derived
automatically by looking at their areas of interest as well as the ideas
contained in the documents and email messages they generate. Having
identified an employee's area of expertise, Agentware can then
recommend colleagues with similar interests or relevant experience,
identify duplication of effort and encourage greater collaboration.
Knowledge managers and developers of corporate intranets, including
such companies as Lucent, Barclays Bank, Shell International, Semi-Tech,
Novell and Royal Mail, are all using Autonomy's Agentware products for
knowledge management.
Autonomy's Knowledge Management products include:

* Knowledge Server
* Knowledge Update
* Knowledge Builder >>

My first question is really asking for a confirmation. After reading some of
this, am I correct in saying that this software is only used to "automate"
categorizing info??? Or is this software also capable of "search" which
would compete with Cruncher?

2) If it does have "search" capability would that capability be similar to the
finder? (Someone had posted on this board that Cruncher *could* be
incorporated in Novell's software as a "finder".
As I am a bit confused on what autonomy's full capabilities are, I also am
curious because Novell is a client of autonomy and also has presence on
SpyHop which leads me to wonder if it is it possible the two technologies
(Cruncher and Autonomy) could team up.

I know these questions should be answered in Search Engines for
Dummies... ;> When it comes to the back end, I have absolutely no
expertise. So any help in sorting this mess out for me is greatly
appreciated!

Thanks to anyone who wants to "dive" in on this.
