JavaSoft unveils Java for DOS
.....
Baratz said the spread of Java has been striking, rising to about 45 million users in some 500 days,
based on the number of browsers that have Java support.

He repeated the aim for the JavaSoft unit "to break even in the next fiscal year and drive to
profitability after that."

But he declined comment on one analyst's projection that Java could provide a $1 billion royalty
stream during the next five to 10 years, or another estimate that new sales opportunities generated by
interest in Java alone were worth more than $300 million in incremental revenues.

"We're nowhere near either one of those numbers right now," he said.
