A few more excerpts from the USA Today article: Only 1.6 million of the nation's 101 million households pay for phone service on line, but are expected to grow to 10.8 million by 2003, according to analyst Boyd Peterson of The Yankee Group. Sprint is in talks with CheckFree and plans to provide online billing in about 6 months, someone close to negotiations told USA Today. A deal may be announced well in advance. GTE is testing Microsoft's Transpoint online billing system. It will be available mid-year, says Wayne Irwin, assistant VP for Web Services at GTE. Yeah, right (okay, I added that <g>).
