<NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Gateway Inc. is to acquire a stake in an online computer-products retailer and is launching an online site to sell software peripherals and computer accessories. According to the Wall Street Journal, it's an effort to increase the company's Internet presence and boost its product offerings. The move by Gateway follows a rush by computer makers to open electronic retailing outlets. In January, Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ) acquired online retailer Shopping.com, while Dell Computer Corp.(DELL) recently started using its Web site to sell a selection of other makers' software and peripherals.
