Frederick,

I read that article as well. The author had no clue of what he was talking about - other than he knew how to promote MSFT's non-existent products.

You hit him in the right places though. For him to say that there are no killer apps is biased opinions. Groupwise is a Killer app to any company that values TCO reductions. NetWare for SAA, BorderManager, DNS/DHCP, Lucent switching, the recent appearance of ERP integration, Oracle, NDSforNT, NDs for Solaris, and many many more are all killer apps as well for those companies that are smart enough to take significant advantage of TCO reductions, increased security, fault tolerance, and other benefits.

What the author quite understandably had also forgot to mention (based on his clear biases toward MSFT) is that Active Directory will initially release sometime in 2000. It will then take another 3-5 years for Active Directory to mature to the current level of NDS functionality and scalability. By then, NDS will have released 2 or three major enhancement releases themselves.

I heard this week at a conference that AT&T and Novell are working together with the next release of NDS where AT&T's goal will be to put every US citizen on their NDS directory! MSFT can not even dream that big and NDS will be able to handle that scalability with this year's release of SCADS (NDS version 8).

He has no understanding of Directory Services and only writes articles based on the chartware and marketing FUD that MSFT seems to send him on a daily basis.

Congrats for going after him! Unfortunately we dont have the same podium to dispute his MSFT FUD that he has to spread it. Such is life!
