SAFLINK Announces Compatability With Polaroid's Low Cost Fingerprint Technology Recently Announced Polaroid Finger Scanner And Algorithms to be HA-API Compliant and SAF Qualified
TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- SAFLINK Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of The National Registry Inc. (Nasdaq: NRID), today announced that its award winning Secure Authentication Facility(TM) (SAF(TM)) biometric security software products have been integrated and qualified with Polaroid Corporation's (NYSE: PRD) recently announced low-cost finger image scanner technology. The Polaroid PFS-100 scanner will be sold through original equipment manufacturers and integrated into computer systems and keyboards with the goal of making Polaroid technology a reliable and affordable solution for users concerned with the security of their desktop and e-commerce transactions.
"Polaroid is a world-wide identification market leader with an outstanding reputation for commercializing innovative, high-quality image capture and processing technologies," said Jeffrey P. Anthony, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SAFLINK Corporation. "Our open systems, standards-based approach to biometric hardware and algorithms allows SAFLINK to offer its customers the premier technologies available in the market-place and we are extremely pleased to be adding the PFS-100 scanner to the growing list of HA-API compliant products qualified with our SAF(TM) software."
SAFLINK's SAF suite of multi-biometric network security products provide enterprise-level biometric identification and authentication (I&A) functions that dramatically improve overall network and data security. These architected biometric solutions solve the "last big problem in information security." The industry has already resolved most of the issues surrounding other elements of a comprehensive security architecture, such as access control, encryption, virus protection, and physical security. The biggest remaining hole in network security and enterprise management is weak I&A. SAFLINK's biometric I&A products fill this huge gap at a very affordable price.
SAFLINK delivers multi-biometric products in two areas:
* Packaged solutions for Windows NT, Novell NetWare, and Computer Associates Unicenter TNG based enterprise networks
* SAFtyTools (software developer's kits) for integration with vertical applications
In addition, all SAF products are fully compliant with the Human Authentication Application Program Interface (HA-API) specification that provides a high-level standard software interface for common biometric functions. HA-API permits multiple biometric technologies, such as fingerprint, voice print and facial recognition, to be embedded within a common application environment either singly or in combination with each other to enhance the flexibility and security of network access and other personal identification functions. HA-API is supported by a broad range of industry leading biometric technology companies and is sponsored by an agency of the U.S. Department of Defense. By basing the SAF application suite on HA-API, SAFLINK offers users maximum flexibility and choice. This is evidenced by the easy integration of Polaroid's new fingerprint scanner technology into the SAF product suite.
Philip J. Scarfo, vice president of Polaroid's biometric division, said, "We are using our knowledge and experience to create the line of products that improve the performance, accuracy and affordability of this new technology." "The PFS-100 combines the best of both optical and CMOS technology to create a very durable and very low-cost device. Making our device compatible with SAFLINK's suite of enterprise products represents an important step in providing a more complete security solution to our customers," Scarfo said.
Polaroid Corporation, with annual sales of more than $1.8 billion in 1998, is the worldwide leader in instant imaging. Polaroid supplies instant photographic cameras and films; digital imaging hardware, software and media; medical diagnostic imaging media; secure identification systems; graphics imaging systems; sunglasses and polarizers to markets worldwide.
