Artic,
This sounds more like you are getting file corruption on your harddrive.

Windows 95 still uses the old FAT file system which is prone to corruption especially if Win 95 locks up and you have to reboot without being able to shut your system down gracefully.

Try the following but keep in mind that you may have to reinstall Win 95 and your applications anyway:

1. Double click on My Computer to open it.
2. Right mouse click on the C: drive
3. In the popup menu left click on Properties
4. in the Error-Checking status box press the Check Now button
5. In the scanDisk window left click on Therough tha Automatically Fix Errors to enable them. (Black Dot)
6. Press the Start button.

Once the error checking is done you will need to reboot your PC by Pressing the Start Button, Selecting Shutdown, then selecting Restart the PC.

Once the PC is back up:
1. Start IE4
2. From the Menu bar select Help
3. From the drop down menu selet Product Updates
4. This will take you to the Microsoft Web page for IE4 and it will calculate the required updates for IE4. Answer yes to the various questions about calculating your system needs and allow it to download and update your PC automatically rather that trying to do it yourself.

On a modem, this would take as long as 2 hours to perform the IE4 update so you might want to do it later in the evening before going to bed.

The error checking should be done as soon a possible.

WARNING: If the error checking finds any system files bad it could fix what it can and in doing so it could render your system inoperative. Make sure that you have your Win95 Emergency Startup disk available first incase you need to have someone recover your system.

Tip: Find a Win95 Guru in your area and make real good friends with him. It will make things easier. Don't be supprised if he or she is a teenager.
