"State of the Dog Pound'' .....
Good to see the Mascot back on home turf... Yes; the ''Dogfight'' rages on...
Basically life would be very boring if there was only ''one'' breed of Dog in the Oilpatch. We have good Dogs and Bad Dogs, we have lap dogs and seeing eye dogs - (we also have some dogs who can't see at all <VBG>), we have dogs that bite (now who would that be) and dogs that lead and dogs that follow...
Basically we all eat the same ''Chow'' here and it is of course - the price of Oil...
75% of posters here agree on the basic precept that Oilpatch stocks are relatively cheap, Oil Prices are at historic lows; and the History has shown that buying stocks in commoditized sectors at commodity price lows are among the most highly profitable trades in the Market. This is beyond sane arguement.
The only ''real'' debate here is the risk vs. reward ratio. Where do we each determine that the upside exceeds the downside to a degree that we ''individually'' feel comfortable in assuming risk. No single trade, no single share of stock is bought, or sold without some degree of risk, or some degree of timing. The debate quite often gets highly emotional here. However, this is; as most threads are, a group of generally bullish investors. I only point out that there exist very few alltruistic commentators. When I see someone trying wayyyyy toooo hard to save me from myself - all the Bells & Whistles go off !
Amazing the Internet/Tech Guru Analyst Mary Meeker - downgraded those sectors and made very bearish comments on their valuations mere weeks ago - at least being a primary catalyst in driving their selloff. Now after Amazon.com et al have sold off nearly 50% or so; she reverses herself and pounds the table on the sector and their future.... Surprise, surprise ! The Street saw a sector where they basically missed the boat - didn't want on at then present valuations and what did they do ? They changed margin requirements, flooded the airways with gloom & doom stories on dayrtrades - the bubble etc. Then what did they do once they ''popped'' the bubble - surprise, surprise - they bought the hell out of it !
Now what did one analyst house just slip and tell us weeks ago ? They downgraded the sector - basically so they could ''pound the table'' later ! Now with so many indisputable indicators just beginning to show signs of potential catalyst to higher Oil prices (not the least of which were Greenspans warnings on crude oil not remaining low) what is the Street doing here once again ?
Well; from what I see & hear - they are desperately trying to ''keep the lid on it'' as the OPEC meeting is obviously a potential - ''turn on a dime'' catalyst.'' Once again - can't blame the Street for wanting to get in on a ''sure thing'' - which is what Oilpatch Stocks will be if OPEC announces new cuts... So - we either learn from the Street and read what they do and act ahead; or we react and remain at ''their'' mercy... the choice is yours !
When in doubt follow the money... Ever see a dog offer some of what's in his dish to another dog ? Or, do they tend to protect their dish ? Yes; the Canine analogies are quite fitting here... Some dogs run with the pack and some venture off into new territory... to each their own... Personally, I want to be the first Dog to the Food Bowl <VBG> !
The only logical, sane and mature debate is ''WHEN" and not ''IF". If anyone doesn't buy into that theory - then they imho, are only here to vent frustration... There are other threads on Armageddeon - the Big Khanuna - The End of the World - Y2K Bomb Shelter Building and Survivalism in the last days of civilization... obviously one has the ''right'' to post anything (well allmost anything <VBG>) on any thread they want... I merely point out the question ''why'' are they ''here'' ? - for ''our' benefit - or, ''theirs'' - certainly it's NEVER about the MONEY - we all know that <VBG> !
This ''Dog'' enjoys and occassional fight, even if it means going to the pound on occassion .... Yes, I do bite on occassion - but hey lap dogs aren't for everyone.... Some people want a Pekingese and some want a Doberman... I merely choose to express my views, and I absolutely do not take myself too seriously - and much of what I post is because way too many do take themselves too seriously - and often deserve a ''tweek or two''. The debate will allways rage on - allways has & allways will...
By the way Did the Sky fall on FLC yet ? I can't get an answer on that 1- 800 - BANKRUPT line ? Well; too early to tell - but don't look like no $5 Falcon Soup for Slider today.... |
