You have had 9 years to get it right, and CDMA manufacturers have surpassed GSM in 3. From Nokia's own site, the best 61xx has 3 hours talk, 60 hour standby, and weighs 4.8 oz. With a standard Thin Phone, weighing 4 oz., you get 2.5 hours talk and 90 hours standby. That requires no extra battery.
why should any country choose IS-95 if the consumers can get far better handsets with GSM?
That is the point. There are far better CDMA handsets now. Check out the Japanese offerings. The MSM3000 has allowed CDMA to surpass anything done in GSM-land, and it will only get better as the MSM3100 feeds the market. Development times for QCOM supplied manufacturers are minimal when compared to GSM manufacturers. GSM will never catch up now.
