I used to think xDSL had an edge over cable back in 1996. Cable technology used to be one way (broadcast out). They have overcome that obstacle. Now they are ready to rock and roll. ADSL only carry traffic from your home to the closest pop. AOL and many Telcos do not have the expertise to unload that traffic easily to content providers. This task is not trivial. It will be a major obstacle for widely adoption of ADSL. Countries outside of the US may have a better chance with ADSL simply because they hardly have a meaningful cable network. T/TCI/ATHM combination is very powerful.
