Even more interesting given this: Cisco Systems to Build State Network System for Telia, FT Says San Jose, Feb. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Cisco Systems Inc., the No. 1 maker of networking equipment, is buying Telia AB's entire existing telecommunications infrastructure, then leasing it back to Sweden's No. 1 phone company as Telia simultaneously awards Cisco a contract to build a new network based on Internet technology, the Financial Times reported, citing the companies. The sale-and-leaseback contract to run Telia's networks represents a breakthrough for Cisco into a $200 billion-a-year telecom equipment market, the FT said in the influential Lex column, and puts it squarely in competition with traditional suppliers like Lucent Technologies Inc. Cisco's contract represents an even greater threat to European rivals Siemens AG of Germany and Alcatel SA of France as voice and data traffic converge, the column said. --------------------------- Telia is already using VocalTec VEA software. I hope Cisco continues using it with their hardware. - it seems a distinct possibility given recent developments between the two companies.
