David,
Redo the Win95 setup only this time do not keep newer files. You must get your system back to working on all the same revision files first.

Then, do a thorough error checking with auto fix. This is found in the properties of the C: drive in My Computer. See my previous post:
#2052 on this procedure.

Once this is done, goto Microsoft's page for Win95 Service Pack 1 and install the Service Pack.

The newer files you are encountering are probably updated files that the older version Win95 can't handle.
