Hi all,
Carswell just posted this on Stockhouse, looks like Clinton is throwing his weight behind a peace process, looking better

US unveils plans for major African conference

President Clinton has restated his support for closer ties beteen the United States and developing countries in Africa.

President Clinton made the comments at a joint media conference in Washington with the visiting Ghanaian president, Jerry Rawlings.

At the same time, the White House unveiled plans for a US-Africa conference to be held in Washington next month.

Correspondents say the US hopes to bring together the foreign affairs, finance and trade ministers of more than forty African countries.

Earlier, President Clinton said he would support whatever necessary force was required to ensure peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Mr Clinton said the US was prepared to take part in an internationally recognized peacekeeping effort.

From the newsroom of the BBC World Service

Hi Cana

Great to see Starpoint making the "Where the action is" list.

NCN news states that " The number one report making the rounds in Washington at this time is the indication that Angola and Zimbabwe are pulling out, or have pulled out, of the DR Congo".

The Congo will be a main topic of discussion at the Washington meetings. Up till now the USA has been using second stringers with no decision making powers, Clinton has the weight of the Presidency behind him and the power to negotiate and implement a peace plan.

Carswell

The report will be on NCN before 2130 GMT I'll post here if relevant

Regards

John
