I think I missed something here in terms of what you are doing. I was just pointing out that a PowerBook with the USB card running Mac OS 8.6 should be just fine. It has all the ports you could want (except firewire, which is no big deal yet).

I didn't realize you bought a USB modem. It didn't occur to me since the PowerBooks tend to come with internal 56k modems. Serial modems would work just fine on the PowerBook.

If you let me know what you are trying to do, I can let you know what options come to mind...

As for John and the G3s, I think you are being way, way too harsh. Most laserprinters are networked, so Ethernet is clearly your solution, not USB. If you have an office with a lot of older peripheral equipment, then you should likely wait a generation or two before deploying new technology.

I would consider finding a retailer with some older 300 and 333 G3 stock. Apple is selling these right now off their webpage under the special deals.

There are a lot of USB Mice and Keyboards to choose from, so that seems like a non issue.

Apple looks pretty cheap at $36-7. I really expected it to close on $50 as it becomes more obvious that this years earnings will be over $2.50. Market-risk, of course, can always change things.

I think there is a rampant rumor that this quarter will be weak. We may have to wait until April to see the stock recover.
