Leaps have great leverage. You can also be wrong and still come out right with the greater time frame. I bought NEM jan 2000 strike 30 last year for about 1 1/2. A month later I sold them at 5 1/2. Two weeks after that they were 10!. I went for a little lower strike this time. I have had mixed success with 2-4 month time frame on options.
