HOT NEWS! "What do you get when you combine a
former Oracle technology guru, a leading maker of
consumer electronics and a vision for bringing Internet to
the masses? You get IDEAS -- which is short for Interactive
Digital Electronic Appliances, a platform for building
television sets capable of surfing the Net.

Diba Inc., started by former Oracle Vice President
Farid Dibachi, and Zenith Electronics Corporation
said Thursday they will produce a product line of
interactive television sets called "NetVision". Using
a trackball-equipped remote control, viewers will be
able to surf the web and access email at the click of
a button.

The Net-ready sets will be priced between 400-600$ above
the cost of a traditional television set. Equipped with
28.8 kbps modems, the NetVision line will also sport
an ethernet port for cable modems, another product Zenith
is developing.

The two firms said their first products will be available
later this year. Diba's Dibachi has said he believes
his product will be much more marketable than the
"network computer" being developed by his former colleagues
at Oracle.

I got this from the Interactive Age Daily.
