Here's some timely advice....

2/11/97

First Albany said it downgraded the computer networking group.

They said 3Com Corps (NASDAQ:COMS) profit warning Monday raised "significant questions about near-term growth of networking.

"Investment momentum in group has stalled," a report from analyst Matt Barzowskas said. They lowered Cabletron, 3Com, Cisco, Ascend, Shiva, U.S. Robotics and Xircom to neutral from buy, and maintained Bay Networks at neutral.

And, in other late breaking news...

[Intel] expects "flat to down" first-quarter gross margins compared to 62.9% in the fourth quarter. For all of 1997 Bryant said Intel expects gross margins of about 60%, compared with 56% in 1996. At some point in the future, he said, he expects Intel's gross margins to drop to about 50%. Bryant said that because Intel's gross-margin percentages vary depending on product mix, the company puts more stock in absolute-dollar gross margins. He said absolute gross margins in the fourth quarter were $4 billion.
