Michael,

I've received information from unnamed sources that Iomega is currently developing two new products:

1) Low-cost (<$200) 2GB drive with MR heads. Sources claim that since the new drive will use MR heads, it will not be compatible with Jaz disks. Sources also claim that this drive is nearing the end of development; that prototype models are currently working and that the drive will be announced "soon".

2) Firewire/SCSI based, high speed, re-writeable optical drive in the >10GB range. Random access times reportedly in the sub-50ms range. Drive will use UDF file system and will allow either FAT16 or FAT32 format, as well as cross-platform compatibility with PC's and Macs for both the drive and file system.

I also received information that Iomega is preparing to begin beta-testing a new product within the next few weeks. I haven't been able to confirm what the new product is.

regards,

Lipo
