Some PIII system prices.
Looks like a loaded PIII450 with monitor is coming out below $1700!
Unprecedented prices for a new chip. Office Depot has Compaq 5600i at $1680 with 17" monitor and all the other goodies. CompUsa has NEC PIII450 similarly configured including color printer, (15" monitor), for $1599. Circuit City has CTX PIII450 at $1599 with 17" monitor including choice of printer or scanner.
Of course these are home PC models, but it appears the price spread across segmentation is compressing. If they follow historic learning curves I expect these systems to be under $1300 by Christmas.
(On Monday a local supplier, Computer Age, had a loaded PIII 450 with 17" monitor for $1399. PIII 500 for only $200 more. And a loaded PII 400 with 17" monitor for $1099!)

The consumer is the true winner in this war.
