I don't see a link here to biometric authentication. It could work if Touchstone bioscripts were to be used to create the public key. This would mean a device would be needed anywhere the internet was accessed for this purpose. That is not practical. Anyway, the government was scared away from authentication using fingerprints and I doubt they would bring it in for this project.

Your point about back door access is valid. Theoretically I can steal your public key. That is why biometrics are going to be attractive in the future to authenticate that I am the one authorized to use the key. But without biometrics I can still put multiple layers of security that are time or document specific. Entrust exists because it is a sophisticated key issuer service designed to ensure that any communication is protected from unauthorized eyes. It is like giving a key to your house to a trusted neighbor who will take extra precautions to hide your key. It still leaves exposures but why would a thief waste time trying to crack it when so many other doors are left wide open.

I think physical and network security is a more viable application than public key applications at this point.
