Antennas America Introduces New Antenna for Laptop Wireless Communications

Business Editors

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 1999--Antennas
America, Inc. (OTC BB:ANTM) announced today a revolutionary new
antenna product that will provide wireless access to the Internet and
other critical data for laptop computers.
Utilizing its experience in designing conformal antennas for
companies such as Intermec Technologies (NYSE:UNA); Micron
Communications (NYSE:MU) and LoJack (NASDAQ:LOJN), the Company's new
F800 antenna is a powerful, yet flexible, antenna system which can be
installed directly on the computer and is connected to a wireless
modem inserted in the computer's PCMCIA slot. The F800 antenna has a
unique technical advantage in its ability to function well when
installed in unpredictable environments.
In addition to the F800's high-tech form factor, the main design
parameter is flexibility, creating an antenna that will function in
several wireless applications or installations without requiring
modification of the fundamental design of the antenna. Currently
available in the cellular frequency of 800 MHz to 900 MHz, the F800
antenna can also be used, among other things, as a car phone antenna
that can also be installed under the dash or rear deck of a vehicle.
The Company plans on introducing "F" series antennas specifically
designed for PCS and GSM for international use by mid-year.
The F800 antenna was developed in response to the growing market
for wireless mobile computing and wireless data retrieval that takes
advantage of IP (internet protocol) based technologies such as CDPD
(cellular digital packet data) that are being deployed by wireless
carriers like AT&T Wireless Services (NYSE:T) and Bell Atlantic Mobile
(NYSE:BEL). The use of CDPD types of technology allows for a more
cost-effective wireless link than using standard dial-up cellular
connections, thus increasing the appeal to businesses and individuals
that previously had to pay standard cellular rates for costly
circuit-switched wireless connections.
"The desire to connect to the Internet from a portable or remote
location is rapidly expanding the wireless data retrieval business,"
said Randall P. Marx, Chief Executive Officer of the Company.
"Internet-compatible technology such as CDPD will some day make
wireless internet connections as common as today's wireline
connections."
"This new antenna breakthrough is another example of the
Company's strategy to leverage its technology in numerous directions
by providing its line of antennas, now ranging in frequency from
50 MHz to 2.5 GHz, to all aspects of wireless communications. As an
example, additional commercial target markets for the F800 antenna
include mobile sales and service fleets, law enforcement, and
companies that remotely monitor assets such as vending machines, copy
machines, and public utility meters. On the consumer side, the product
will be marketed to the laptop users who are finding their portable
computers, such as 3Com's (NASDAQ:COMS) PalmPilot(TM) and Casio's
Cassiopeia, shrinking in size and increasing in performance to access
more and more internet capacity."
The new F800 antenna will also be marketed through the Company's
existing channels of consumer and commercial markets for mobile
cellular users as an in-vehicle, hidden alternative to the easily
broken and vandalized conventional "whip" antennas.
