Downside penetration of trend channel....If charting techniques hold true, we may be on the cusp of a nasty little sell-off. AOL penetrated the bottom end of a fairly long running trend channel with todays close. If it trades down at all tomorrow, the pattern should be confirmed and we should get some selling from technical traders.

Logged into AOL's web page today (I haven't logged into AOL since my mother cancelled her account 2 years ago). The whole thing was one screaming advertisement for AOL, which was to be expected. What offended me was that the ads seem to speak to you at such a low level. There were constant references to the "AOL Family". They crowed about membership increases to point up the fact that you could be part of the "AOL experience", whatever that is. It was all a little too Hitlerian for me.

I then checked out some of their proprietary "content" and quite frankly, it sucked. I can't imagine anyone but the most uninformed and dreary people settling for their pre-packaged format.

I then checked out MSN. What a contrast.

In the long run the internet will be a medium for forms of business and entertainment requiring immense bandwidth; the kind of content that can only be carried by coax or fiber. After looking at the differences between AOL and some of their competitors, I can't say who will win, but I'm damn sure of who is going to lose.
