I am sure AT&T has a strategy like you stated. But T will eventually let AOL dominate cable broadband. Why not? AT&T could buy ATHM later and fold it into AOL(or AT&T, isn't that the same thing if the merger is to happen?). ATHM's contract with cable operators are not forever.

You said that ATHM is a major investment of AT&T. But after AT&T bought AOL, would AOL become its biggest investment? AT&T will give preference to its biggest investment I would think.

Things will get too complicated for the good of our money in ATHM.
I would rather not to see that merger to come true.
