We seem to be carrying the WPI thread right now. The mutual fund explanation for the Dec. 31 spike makes sense to me, sort of. I don't think they do it to lock in profits; mutual funds get the "gain" regardless of whether they sell the stock or not, and selling a winner just creates a messy capital gains distribution. But it does make sense that the mutual fund managers are "window-dressing" their funds by creating a false sense of what stocks were invested in throughout the year. But WPI went UP on Dec. 31, which means that Watson is an "impressive" investment (i.e. one which fund managers want on their end of the year reports). I would think that most investors have never heard of WPI for the most part and would be much more impressed with names like Merck and Cisco.
Can you explain the Vicodin situation? All I've seen are vague mentions of it. What is Vicodin? Is it a big revenue-maker? Was it pulled from shelves? Is the FDA warning letter related to Vicodin or something else. It seems to me, the sooner WPI gets ahead of the issue by sharing information, the quicker we get this stock back up to new highs. Uncertainty is killing us right now.
