Novell, Inc. (NASDAQ:NOVL - news) lost $1, or 6%, to $19.88 after reporting its first fiscal quarter earnings of $0.08 per share, double the year-earlier period, and in-line with the average analyst estimate. Revenue rose 13% over the prior year to $286 million. Joel Achramowicz, a Preferred Capital Markets analyst, attributes the downturn to a few analysts on the Street who pumped up their numbers yesterday to $0.09 per share with whisper numbers as high as $0.11. 'I think the guys got ahead of themselves,' says Achramowicz, who adds that the first quarter is seasonally light. He remains bullish with a
'strong buy' and $28 target price because of the strong growth in its new products, such as the NetWare 5. Overall, the three segments of Novell's business that are directory-related accounted for 88% of total revenue and grew 27% over the year.
