Rough period for tech stocks. I think the next event that the analysts are waiting for is Gerstner's meeting with them. If I recall it usually is in mid-March so if anyone out there knows the date please let us know. I think he will reiterate the first half game plan of moving business in and then using every option available to work around the Y2K expected data center freeze. His stated goal is to take share from his competitors and if there is pain to be experienced in 1999 then let competition bear that burden. From what I can see there are challenges but I believe his focus will be on how IBM intends to make its business plan and use adversity to IBM's advantage. That has been the message but no one is buying it much right now. It will be up to him to reinforce this message in March.
