Yeah, I suppose, but I'm sure the engineers at IBM, Compaq, and Gateway needed to be convinced a little harder that the higher voltage isn't going to be a problem.

<Your point about the fan is misplaced. The K-2 450's all take lower power than the old 233's which were introduced not so long ago. SO yes you need a good fan, but the heat generated here is not a big deal as the PC form factor has plenty of margin.>

We need to stick to apples and apples here. Going across process technologies doesn't count.

Anyway, even I feel that this voltage thing is being taken to an extreme. I'm sure that if Intel really felt pressured to, they'd jack up the voltage on the Celeron from 2.0 to 2.4 volts and watch that baby scream at 600 MHz. Heh, imagine that!
