Hello Vaughn,

Thankfully, SUF folks all left the Luo and Cassanguidi areas before Xmas. I was talking with one of the guys who set up the Camafuca camp, and he assured me of a couple things. Firstly, security measures were more than adequate. While I'm not qualified to evaluate this, the comments from someone on the scene seem very real and meaningful. Secondly, the decision to evacuate Camafuca would not be a corporate one. Rather than reading the various press accounts, this fellow assured me that the folks best able to understand the risks of being in Angola were the people who were actually there. Kinda makes sense that those who are local make the decision about when to stay and when to go. He assured me that things seemed reasonable enough in his mind, and in the minds of the others at Camafuca, that continuing work was the correct option.

Its just terrible to see the havoc that illegal diamond/arms dealing has wrecked in several parts of Africa.

Regards,
