LindyBill, I am always thinking about shorting or buying puts on Compaq but their internet biz scared me off. You are right that it was a no brainer as Dell disappointed. I can see how it may hurt PC company profits but don't understand the effect on MSFT or Intel.
The boxmakers' revenues might drop due to competition but unit growth probably remains intact.

Hopefully we have all the tech bad news out of the way. Maybe more of these analysts should have dropped their estimates on all the PC makers---would have saved us from future downgrades.
However, I bet that Edelstone from Morgan Stanly---an Intel bull, will probably make some comments regarding Intel earnings ( after he chats with the CFO <g> ). I am betting that they will do fine, which is the indication I got from their last earnings conference call.
Of course, that would extend to MSFT as well.
