just looked up social security: 44 million people 18% of the US population collect social security and medicare...cost is 45B a month. Greenspan has to arbitarily set his inflation target to zero to eliminate the COLA on these payments, and allow the implicit inflation of equity assets to provide the tax revenue to finance the increase. The COLA is killing him.
