Mao2: I didn't have a loss on 150K shares - I started with a fundamental analysis and bought about 25K. As the price dropped I kept backing my analysis until I had 150K (but with a few nights loss of sleep). I was actually on my way from London to Cannes when told on the telephone that the company had been bought out. My family still remember my extraordinary generosity on that trip!

There was massive manipulation of the copper market by some Japanese brokers, and the status of reserves in warehouses is almost as difficult to fathom as CPQ's inventory in the channel. Every now and then there is a technology scare to the effect that copper is to be replaced by fibre: even earthquakes, floods and wars come into play. If I was doing it again I would do it as a trader.
