Alan --

Congratulations on getting ADSL at last. PacBell has announced it's available in the San Diego area, and since my specific area hasn't been included, I've called Time Warner and signed up for RoadRunner. They're so backed up with requests I can't get it till March. I would feel like a traitor other than the fact I'm now investing in cable, too. Reality says they're both going to have strong markets.

Last night I had dinner at a friend's and discovered what I think will be a killer application: video editing software for the casual user. I don't know whose she bought, but it lets you make your own movies --- sound, text, you name it. I don't even own a video camera but seeing what she could do made me want to go right out and buy one. Now, imagine what will happen when people start making short films to share with friends and family? Yep, lots of bandwidth needed to send those things across the Net. Grandpa and Grandma want to see little Amy's birthday party??? No problem. . . Casting director wants to see Antonio Banderas read a part??? Video it and press "send". . . Interview for a job? Ditto. . .

Those pipes will fill up as fast as they're built.

Good to hear from you again.

Cheers!

Pat
